Alan Wilson

Fresh Produce Agriculture Projects, Waitrose

Alan has 43 years’ experience with Waitrose with most of that time spent in a managerial role in buying or technical within fresh produce. He has championed collaborative working with growers and suppliers, introduce several innovations such as The Agronomy Group, professional development, Waitrose approach to pesticide management, integrated crop farming and the wider research needs within fresh produce. In 2016 Waitrose Agronomy Group was awarded a significant BBSRC grant to develop studentships.  He has pioneered the Waitrose engagement in sustainability and organic farming. Alan has written several books on the historical and varietal aspects of the potato. Alan is a Trustee of the John Lewis Natural History group and works closely with local farmers.

Alan has admitted to being a West Ham united supporter, a James Bond fan and keen vegetable grower himself.
